All Max member accounts are protected by multi-factor authentication (MFA).

MFA is a security method designed to help prevent account takeovers. In the unlikely event that a third-party is able to learn or guess your username and password, the addition of MFA makes it more difficult for that unauthorized party to gain access to your Max account.

MFA combines “something you know” (your username and password) and “something you have” (your trusted device). In order to login to Max, you will be required to enter your username and password, as well as a randomly generated numerical code, which will be sent to your phone. Max delivers your unique security code via your choice of voice call, SMS text message, or authenticator app such as Authy or Google Authenticator.

Upon your first login to Max, you will be asked to verify your trusted device. Thereafter, you may instruct Max to save your trusted device for up to 6 months.

At Max, we’re committed to protecting your privacy and the security of your accounts. While Max never takes custody of your funds and is designed to help ensure funds only move between your own bank accounts, new functionality that Max plans to launch soon will benefit from the increased security afforded by MFA.

How to verify your phone number

When members log in to their Max account, they will be asked for a code which has been sent to the phone number associated with your Max account. Members can choose to receive this code either via text message or automated phone call.

  • If the phone number you listed is a mobile phone, you can opt for either the text message or phone call option.

  • If the phone number you listed is a home phone, you should opt for the phone call option.

Members will need to verify access to their phone number when signing into their account, and when editing any sensitive account information, such as when changing the address listed on a member’s account.

If you would like to avoid entering this MFA code upon every account login, you can opt to "Remember this Device" by checking that box when entering your code.

How to edit your MFA settings

Once you have verified that you have access to the phone number on your Max account, you can opt to switch the authentication method to an authentication app like Google Authenticator or Authy.

To edit the settings of your MFA, change the phone number associated with your Max MFA, or remove a trusted device, you may do so by visiting Profile > Multi-Factor Authentication.

If you do not have access to the phone number listed on your Max account, you will be prompted to reach out to Max Member Services for assistance.
