Max Checking is powered by Customers Bank, so if you have both a Max Checking account powered by Customers Bank and a Customers Bank savings account, your combined balance across both accounts will count towards your FDIC insurance limit at Customers Bank.

In an effort to help ensure your funds are fully FDIC-insured, by default Max will automatically adjust the maximum balance setting for your Customers Bank savings account to take into account the Target Balance you have set for your Max Checking account.

For example: if you have set the Target Balance for your Max Checking account to $10,000, Max will automatically reduce the maximum balance setting for your Customers Bank savings account by $10,000, such that your combined maximum balance setting will be $10,000 (checking) + $238,500 (savings) = $248,500 (total).

You may override these default settings by selecting Custom FDIC insurance limits on your Max Dashboard.

How can I change my maximum target balance settings for my savings accounts?

Note: In the absence of Max Checking, by default Max’s monthly optimization targets keeping each savings account balance at/below $248,500 (individual) or $497,000 (joint), so that principal plus accrued interest stay below the FDIC insurance limit.
