If you frequently travel internationally, you may want to consider changing your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) method from phone or SMS to an authentication app such as Google Authenticator or Authy.

This will enable you to receive MFA codes via your mobile phone so that you can log in to your Max account from abroad to initiate Optimizations or Funds Transfers or edit your account settings.

If you do not change your multi-factor authentication method to an authentication app, you may not be able to receive MFA codes via text message or phone call while you are outside of the United States. With authentication apps, all you need in order to receive your MFA code is access to WiFi.

You can switch the MFA method associated with your Max account to an authentication app by visiting Profile > Multi-Factor Authentication > Setup Authenticator App.

Note: for your security, if you have not set up an authenticator app before you travel, you may not be able to access your Max account or reset your password if you are prompted for MFA verification while you are abroad.
